Gareth is an experienced and passionate photographer based in Perth, Western Australia, with a lifelong love for travel, adventure, and storytelling through the lens. Having explored over 55 countries, Gareth has dedicated much of his life to capturing remote landscapes, wild places, and the diverse cultures of our world—always with a sense of curiosity, respect, and purpose.

His journey began at a young age, when a nine-week family trip around the world at age seven sparked what would become a lifelong “travel addiction.” Since then, Gareth has journeyed extensively through regions such as the Nepal Himalaya (four major trips, including a 37-day trek and high-altitude mountaineering expeditions), Southeast Asia (including Timor-Leste, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Penang, and Singapore), Taiwan, New Zealand, and much of Europe.

Gareth has also lived and worked in unique locations for over 15 years such as Christmas Island, Dili (Timor-Leste), and Singapore. These experiences gave him a deep appreciation for the customs, traditions, and values of other cultures—something he believes makes you not only a better photographer, but a better person.

An avid adventurer, Gareth is also an experienced scuba diver, having learned to dive at 13 and achieving his Professional Dive Master certification by 18. He has explored underwater environments with his camera, practiced cave diving in remote locations, and built skills in caving, cliff rescue, and sea kayaking—all of which have fed into his approach to capturing raw, authentic moments in challenging environments.

Gareth’s photography journey began in 1995 with a second-hand Nikon FE2 and a compact Canon camera. While living on Christmas Island in 1998, he started experimenting with underwater photography using a Sea & Sea Motormarine II. His passion quickly grew, and in 1999, after purchasing a Nikon F60 SLR, photography and travel became inseparable. Eventually, he moved on to the Nikon F100—his first professional camera—and never looked back.

Over the years, Gareth has worked with a wide range of professional gear, staying loyal to Nikon’s professional line of cameras and fast aperture lenses. He made the leap to digital with the release of the Nikon D200 in 2005 and has since used the D300, D3S, D800, and the exceptional D850. In 2023, after years of staying with DSLRs, Gareth embraced the next generation of technology with the Nikon Z8, finally confident that mirrorless systems had matured enough to meet his high expectations.

While he believes in using the best tools available, Gareth is clear on one thing: “Having the best equipment helps, but it's the eye of the photographer that truly creates the image.”

In addition to his creative work, Gareth has a strong background in aviation and airline management. He played a key role in establishing and managing a charter airline based in Singapore, overseeing multi-million-dollar contracts. He holds a Diploma in Civil Aviation Management, certificates in Security Operations, and is a qualified Lead Auditor in Quality Assurance (ISO 9001). This level of discipline, professionalism, and operational expertise carries through into his photography practice.

Today, Gareth manages a specialist photography store in Perth, Western Australia, where he enjoys sharing his knowledge and helping others grow their passion for photography. He is available for photographic work, assignments, and collaborations both locally and internationally.
